About the event
Hosted by Girl Up Edinburgh, UK
12pm EST/5pm BST
Beginning with a discussion on the importance of educating conflict affected girls the panel will illustrate pre-pandemic challenges in their academic experiences. Then the panel will investigate how COVID-19 has uncovered new and exacerbated pre-existing issues. The panel will then shift to a conversation about how individuals, civil society, and national and international government agencies can help provide education during times of emergencies. As the global refugee crisis worsens and a chaotic future unfolds, the panel will culminate with a discussion about the future of education for conflict affected individuals.
The conversation aims to present the worldwide commonalities of COVID-19 experiences, while spotlighting how intersecting factors, such as social, political, economic, and environmental considerations, uniquely exacerbate the pandemic’s devastation and contain serious gender implications for conflict affected girls.
