About the event
Hosted by Girl Up North Texas, US
12 pm CST/6pm BST
Across the world, women, young girls, and non-binary menstruators already face disparities in proper access to healthcare due to gender discrimination, cultural taboos, lack of access to hygiene products, and insufficient education on hygiene and care. This panel will delve into what period poverty looks like globally, and what menstrual equity means for the communities they serve. Moreover, the panelists will bring their experiences as leaders in the menstrual hygiene space or as healthcare professionals to provide a perspective on how such issues have been aggravated by the COVID-19 pandemic. In particular, the conversation will be centered around the impact of COVID-19 on menstrual health across low-income and underserved communities, prisons, detention centers, shelters, and more.
The panel serves as a fundraiser for the participating organizations that are actively combatting period poverty in their respective communities. Instead of a set ticket price, we are asking for attendees to donate through a ticket purchase however much they can to support these incredible NGO’s and those that they support. 50% of the proceeds will go to the participating organizations, and the other 50% will go to Girl Up.
