To introduce Girl Up Edinburgh’s month long webinar series ‘Exploring COVID-19’s Intersectional Impact on Women and Girls Worldwide’, Girl Up leaders from around the world are meeting on July 26 @ 3 pm EST/8 pm BST via Zoom to share global experiences and understandings of intersectionality and misogyny. Looking back at the history of feminism, and those it has excluded, the aim of this discussion is to push us - the next generation of feminists - to envision what we want the future of feminism to look and act like. Facilitators:
Bethel Kyeza Is an 18-year-old gender equality and equity activist from the United Kingdom. Bethel is passionate about volunteering, politics and global issues. She was part of the 2019-2020 class of Girl Up teen advisors and is currently working with Our future of change against human trafficking and the United Nations girl education Initiative to transform education.
Salomé Beyer founded the first Girl Up Club in her home country of Colombia in 2014 and in 2019 she was selected as the first Colombian Teen Advisor. She is currently still working with Girl Up as the first international TA Co Chair and with Women Deliver in their Young Leaders Program. She wants to go on to study History and Politics in college.
Shira Graubart’s personal, academic, and professional passion is gender equality. As President of Girl Up Edinburgh, Shira emphasizes the importance of uniting intersectional feminists from around the world in a joint effort against patriarchal gender constructs and its consequences. Shira is in her third year at the University of Edinburgh pursuing a joint degree MA International Relations and International Law.
Tanushah Ramadass is a Singaporean activist residing in Chennai, India and she is passionate about all things related to Feminism. She created the first ever Girl Up club in South Asia and the first ever youth run (by high school students) gender equality club in India and she served as a Girl Up teen Advisor, being the first ever teen advisor from Asia. She also serves as the Tamil Nadu coalition leader. Her love for writing allowed her to become one of the Head editors at Indians4socialchange and her love for language allowed her to found an NGO called Project Enlightenment that focuses on improving the literacy rates of non english speaking children across India.
